A complete guide to the vehicle import process, from the auction in Japan to your doorstep in Uganda.
Step 1
Use our live auction portal to browse thousands of vehicles directly from Japan. Use the filters to narrow down your search by make, model, year, and more. Once you find a vehicle you're interested in, click to view its details, including the auction sheet and photos.
Uganda Import Note
For Uganda, the maximum vehicle age is 15 years from the year of manufacture.
Step 2
Contact our sales team to discuss the vehicle. We will provide a detailed cost estimate including all fees and answer any questions you may have. Once you are ready to proceed, we will send you a formal sales agreement to sign.
Step 3
To secure the vehicle and allow us to bid on your behalf, a commitment deposit is required. This is typically a percentage of the vehicle's estimated final cost and is fully refundable if we are unsuccessful in winning the auction for you.
Step 4
Our expert team in Japan will bid on the vehicle on the auction day up to your agreed maximum budget. If we win the auction, we will notify you immediately and handle the purchase from the auction house on your behalf.
Step 5
Upon purchase, we manage the vehicle's de-registration in Japan and arrange for the mandatory pre-export inspection required for your country. We then book it for shipping on the next available vessel to the Port of Mombasa.
Uganda Import Note
All vehicles must pass a mandatory Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) inspection by UNBS-approved agents before shipping.
Step 6
Once the vessel arrives in Mombasa, our clearing agents handle transit clearance. The vehicle is then transported to Kampala for final customs clearance with the URA and local registration.
Uganda Import Note
You will need your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) for this step.
Step 7
After the vehicle has been cleared and registered, you will be invited to make the final payment. Once the balance is cleared, you can collect your new vehicle from our Kampala delivery center.
Here is a summary of the taxes administered by the URA for imported vehicles.
A tax of 15% is levied on the Customs Value of the vehicle.
A standard VAT of 18% is applied after Import Duty.
A 6% Withholding Tax is applied on the Customs Value.
A significant levy, starting at 35% of the value, is applied to vehicles that are 9 years or older.
